I went to the airport this week to pick up some tickets for going home to Ireland. While in the line-up I met Erika, a young student from Mexico. Her flight had been delayed and customs took ages so she missed he connection to small town BC..and no more flights until the following morning. So I called her host family for her, took her home, called her family in Mexico, did a quick trip to the beach and the university to show her around (she was FREEZING...ohhh..wait until she experiences the winter's in BC's interior...poor girl! LOL)
Here she is at the beach with Cara. Compare her clothing to the lady in the background :-) (OK that lady was a little under dressed for the temp I have to say)
after dinner she gave us a little treat from Mexico..Dulce de Leche (Sweet Milk I think it means?)
OMG...I have to google the recipe...so amazing..
The next morning Erika headed off to the Interior for her 4 month home stay ..she is training to be an English student in Mexico. We invited her to stay with us for a few days on her way back home in December. She was such a sweet girl and looked so frightened and scared at the airport I just had to bring her home with me :-)
You are a kind gentle person to take Erica under your protection!
But I'm mad at you!! lol I went to google Dulce de Leche and have wound up reading about it and recipes for its use all evening long!!!!!!!! Problem is, if I ever started using it in recipes, both DH and I would be 5 x 5's in no time. In 2003, I was just a pound or two shy of 200 lbs. Now, if I work real hard at it, I might get my weight back up to 137 lbs. I pretty much eat what I want without putting on weight, but if I were to ingest the sugar that comes with getting hooked on Dulce de Leche, that would go by the wayside. Unfortunately. Yet, I am tempted to try it just once so I can understand what everyone else is raving about. And if I gain weight, I'm going to blame you. lol lol

You are too funny, only you pick up people you don't know in the airport! LOL How nice, I bet she was deeply appreciative! Sounds like a fun evening!
